Media Rakkers was founded by Liesbeth Hop (www.liesbethhop.nl) and is thé knowledge centre for Media Literacy and Youth, based in Amsterdam. Media Rakkers designs and develops different educational materials for schools, conducts market research, organizes debates and congresses, develops information campaigns for children, publishes books on media literacy topics such as digital bullying, advertising, safe internet, transmedia storytelling and sexualization of media.

 

Media Rakkers is supported by more than 200 Dutch and European organizations and institutions in the field of science, consumer rights, governments, non-profit, education and business. Media Rakkers is also supported and financed by the Leonardo Fund of the European Commission, the Dutch Ministry of  Education and by 36 major international corporate companies, such as Coca Cola, Unilever, Hasbro, Procter & Gamble, Nintendo, Mars, Pepsico, T-Mobile, Sanoma Publishers and Ferrero.

 

Media Rakkers is one of the founders of the Dutch Academy for Media & Society (www.mediaenmaatschappij.nl) a highly respected educational institute for media literacy trainings and workshops. In 2007 the Academy started the very successful post graduate National MediaCoach Training (www.nomc.nl) for teachers, librarians and youth workers. More than 500 professionals were trained in Holland as National MediaCoaches.
